Blog: 2011, prepare to meet your masters…

After launching ourselves onto the London music scene in 2010, 2011 looks to be a year of consolidation and exploration for from the ashes.

As we enter into 2011 we are preparing for some profile raising competitions and festivals, have our first gig of the year lined up at the legendary Water Rats in Kings Cross, are reworking old tunes and creating new, preparing to get in the studio to finish off our EP, and generally lining ourselves up for a little world domination.

Of course, most bands feel like this. We have some great material, a “good product” if you will, that always goes down well live. It’s a matter of transferring that successfully into something recorded, more so we have something to show for ourselves to those all important industry peeps. We have plenty to say for ourselves, of course…

Then it’s a matter of presenting yourself in the right way, getting the “package” together. We have an EPK courtesy of our good friend Chris of Midnight Crow Pictures, we need to combine that with some good photos and well-recorded songs for a press pack. It’s not enough to just be a musician any more, you have to be manager, booker, and PR guru all in one!

Long gone are the days where just playing live was likely to get you noticed. The UK music scene has expanded far too greatly for that. Now we must be the jack-of-all-trades needed to get the job done. Everyone has to pull their weight until you get high enough up the chain that others take these jobs off your hands. Then you can just concentrate on the music.

I can’t help feeling that this is an important year for us, that it will be a big year. Whatever happens, it’ll be a hell of a fun year!

So here’s to 2011, long may she reign. A year of great gigs, of expansion, of moving onwards and upwards.

I’ll see you from the stage.
